National Presidential Nominating Convention
HERITAGE COIN

The most time honored and exciting traditions of the American political process is the convening of a National Presidential Nomination Convention every four years by each major political party for the purpose of nominating their Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates.

The first National Convention held by the Democratic Party was in Cincinnati in 1832, and their nominee was Andrew Jackson. The Republicans nominated John Fremont at their first convention in 1856, held in the city of Philadelphia. Four years later they nominated Abraham Lincoln. This commemorative coin celebrates this historic event.
